Topco Juice-sponsored Chess tourney gets cracking today

The Demerara Distillers Limited  Topco Juices Emancipation Chess Tournament gets cracking this morning at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club on Camp and Hadfield Sts, Georgetown. Registration starts at 9:00hrs and the first round is set for 10:00hrs. The seven-round, Swiss System tournament, will see each player  having 90 minutes with an additional 30 seconds increment per move. The tournament is FIDE rated which would allow non-rated players to obtain FIDE rankings if successful against FIDE rated players.  All chess players are invited.

Rounds One and Two will be played today; Rounds Three and Four tomorrow and the remaining three rounds will be contested on August 6 and 7.

This tournament will see junior and senior players competing in one category in a move the federation sees as significant to expose the younger but now sharper players to their adult counterparts, some of whom are FIDE rated.

All participants are required to write their moves and are asked to walk with a pen.

Meanwhile, Tournament Director of the Guyana Chess Federation, Irshad Mohamed, has expressed gratitude to the sponsor for its continued support.

And, DDL’s marketing representative, Larry Wills has said that the company is very pleased to work with the GCF as this is the fourth tournament being sponsored by Topco Juices for the year thus far.
