National netball team competing in Barbados tournament

Guyana’s netball team will play their first match tomorrow against the Barbados Workers All Stars in the Barbados Workers Union Tournament which is slated to conclude on September 15.

Team Guyana is also expected to play three other matches against the Barbados National Under-21, Barbados Police and Barbados Workers Union teams.

Coach Lavern Fraser-Thomas said she could not make a pronouncement  on Guyana’s chances at bringing home the title, as she did not know the level of the other teams.

“In terms of the preparation and the girls’ mindset as it is at the moment, we have a very good chance of winning at least three of the four matches we are scheduled to play.”

Fraser-Thomas said this is the first international tournament for five of the ten players. The team would be competing under the captaincy of Crystal Lambert.

This is Guyana’s second year competing in the tournament. The team left here yesterday morning from the National Gymnasium where they were encamped.
