Bakewell softball

Richard Gomes’s bowling led Rockaway to a 55-run win last Sunday in the ongoing Bakewell male and female softball tournament, which is being held at various grounds across the country.

Asked to bat first by Redemption, Rockaway worked their way to a challenging total of 120 for six as Davanand Samaroo led from the front with a well compiled half century of 61 runs to place his team in a firm position.

In reply, Redemption were unable to get any partnerships going as most of the batsmen were stifled by the bowling of Gomes as he consistently asked questions of Redemption’s batsmen.

Gomes tore through the bating line-up easily as he picked up figures of six for 14, initiating the downfall of Redemption as they ended on 65 all out.

Good Fortuin All Stars ‘A’ picked a lopsided victory as they downed Tornado by 104 runs in their match-up.
All Stars ‘A’ batted first and smashed their way to a massive total of 194 for 6 with Ryan Persaud falling one short of the half century mark. Wazim Sealey also contributed to the total, stroking a fashionable 42 runs during the innings.

However, bowling seemed to be the match winner of the day as Ricky Deonarine led Floodlights to a 22-run victory over East Bankers with his superb spell.

Floodlights batted first and amassed a massive total of 180 for seven as Wayne Jones ended not out on 33.
East Bankers in reply were in with a chance before Deonarine’s bowling proved to be too much for them to cope with. Deonarine ended with a five-wicket haul of 5 for 17.

Khrishna Deosaran’s 103 runs not out led Trophy Stall ‘A’ to a 98-run victory over Lusignan.
Deosaran manhandled the bowling of Lusignan as he demonstrated his power hitting by stroking his first century of the tournament which led Trophy Stall to a gigantic 240 for two.

The total was always unreachable for Lusignan as they put together an innings of 142 all out with Mark Harold leading the way for Trophy Stall with bowling figures of four for 20.

On the distaff side, Underdogs picked up a much needed victory against Ariel Divas after being defeated earlier in the day by Young Vikings.
Underdogs were held down by the young Vikings Bowlers as they reached a total of 93 for one with Shaneeza Ramsaywack scoring 40 runs of the total.

However, Underdogs returned the favour with economic bowling as they held the Divas to 74 for three in their allotted overs.
In the Masters Division it was an all-out batting display between Success Masters and Enterprise Legends.

The Legends who took to the crease first demoralized the bowling of the Masters as they reached a total of 198 all out with P. Dindial slamming his way to a half century of 56 runs.

In reply, Vijay Baljit equaled the feat of Dindial as he stroked his way to 54 leading the Masters to the much deserved win as Success finished on 199 for nine.

Meanwhile, the competition will continue this Sunday as more teams look to solidify their place before the knockout stages begin.
