National cycle team off to Jamaica for Caribbean championships

The Guyana national cycling team departed Guyana yesterday for Jamaica to participate in the Annual Caribbean Cycling Championships.

The team is possibly Guyana’s strongest and will be spearheaded by  Warren “40” Mc Kay, Alonzo Greaves and Geron Williams who recently returned from a training stint in the USA.

Captain of the team is Robin Persaud while coaching duties will be performed by Wayne De Abreu.
Both the coach and the captain expressed confidence in the team and said that although the competition will be of an extremely high standard, they expect the Guyana team to hold their own and give a good account of themselves.

On the distaff side, the Guyana colours will be worn by national road race champ for the past two years, Hazina Barrett, and Naomi Singh. This is Barrett’s first overseas tour and she said she was looking forward to it and expects to perform creditably.

The full Guyana team is: Robin Persaud (Captain), Warren ‘40” Mc Kay, Alonzo Greaves, Geron Williams, Enzo Matthews, Hazina Barrett and Naomi Singh.
