HQ successfully defends title

National cricketer Trevor Benn proved to be the star of the Guyana Police Force’s Inter-Division Twenty20 final as he blasted Headquarters to a comprehensive  victory over G Division in yesterday’s final at the Police Sports Club ground.

Batting first, Benn blasted the G Division bowlers to all parts of the field on his way to the top score of 84. He received support in the form of sibling Troy who chipped in with a useful 35 as Headquarters were dismissed for 200 in 19.2 overs.

In reply, Benn returned to wreak havoc with his medium pace delivers   grabbing 4-9 as G Division were shot out for 96 in 15 overs.
Benn’s heroics ensured he was voted Man of the Match and he also carted off the Player of the Series award as he was mainly instrumental in Headquarters retaining the title they won last year.

Some nine teams participated in the tournament which was organized by Linden Matthews and sponsored by Trophy Stall, retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Ovid Glasgow and Joseph Lewis.

Trophy Stall proprietor Ramesh Sunich donated the first and second placed trophies, Glasgow the Man of the Match trophy and Lewis the Player of the Series trophy.
