Johnson ready for unbeaten Bute

QUEBEC CITY, Canada, CMC – Glen Johnson returns to the ring on Saturday, looking to prove that he is still a major force in the sport.
The Jamaica-born Johnson turns 43 in two months time and faces undefeated Lucian Bute for the International Boxing Federation World super-middleweight (168 lbs) title at the Pepsi Coliseum.

“I have plans on going on and moving forward,” Johnson told BoxingScene.com. “I feel great. I look to put on a tremendous performance [against Bute].

“I expect to come out of the fight victorious. For me, it doesn’t have anything to do with age. I feel great and I’m just looking forward to putting on a great fight.”

Johnson, who now lives in Miami, has a fight record of 51 wins, including 35 KOs, 15 losses and two draws.
He stepped down from the light-heavyweight division (175 lbs) a year ago to participate in Showtime’s Super Six World Boxing Classic at super-middleweight and has decided to stick around the division.

It’s a remarkable achievement for someone at his age and Johnson believed he’s still a threat.
“I have no problems making the weight,” he said. “The weight is not an issue. We’ve made the weight the same way when we came to this class. We’ve made it fairly easy and it’s getting easier each time, so weight is not an issue.”

Johnson is 1-1 in that division, though his last 168 lbs fight wasn’t nearly as competitive as most of his fights.

Bute is putting his 29-0-0 record and World title belt on the line, but this fight is unlikely to answer very few questions about him.
Bute is a stylish fighter. He’s not the stand-and-deliver type and looked equipped with the tools to keep Johnson at range whilst picking up points.
