Pacesetters to lock horns with Fantastic Royals in finals tonight

Georgetown’s Pacesetters will take on Linden’s Victory Valley Royals in the finals of the third Brusche Basketball Classic  tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.

Pacesetters who won the inaugural event in 2009 before being edged out in the finals last year by Wismar Pistons are now playing in their third consecutive finals.
But for the Royals, the story is different.

The side  from the Wismar shore was once one of Linden’s most feared teams but in recent times they have lost key players in transfers to other clubs while others have stepped away from the game.
However, the club still has some bright young prospects.

Royals Fab-4 – Marlon Pollydore, Harold Adams, Chris Williams and Orlan Glasgow.

Chris Williams, Marlon Pollydore, Orlan Glasgow, Harold Adams and Alwyn Rodney form what is now called the ‘Fab-5’ to lead the resurgence of this basketball club.

So far, they have played three games in the tournament; first opening with a 54 – 41 points win over Retrieve Raiders, then they showed their worth against a formidable Kashif and Shanghai Kings side 44 – 75.

The young Royals seem like old wine,  getting better with every game as they crushed pre-tournament favourites Amelia’s Ward Jets by 31 points (68-37) en route to tonight’s finals.

The third place game also has an intriguing element  since it involves two powerful teams (Jets and Ravens) who have both fallen after much was expected of them.
Jump ball time is 6:30 pm.
