Skeldon upsets Albion…in Tenelec cricket

Skeldon Community Centre registered their first victory in seven matches when they upset pre-tournament favourites Albion Community Centre in the latest round of the 2011 Tenelec Inc First Division 50-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice over the weekend.

Seeing them through to their target of 191 for 6 in 42 overs after they did well to restrict Albion to 190 for 9 in the allotted 43 overs was  former Guyana one-day wicket-keeper-batsman Anthony Bramble scoring 95 (4×4), and  he was supported by Mark Lionel who made 68 (5 fours and 1 six), as the duo put on 60 for the fifth wicket, joining forces when Skeldon were 120 for 4.

Shafiq Khan

Albion Community Centre with their second loss from eight matches is nevertheless assured of a place in the semi-finals along with Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, with both teams leading the standings on 12 points.

In the weekend’s other game, Shafiq Khan did well to slam 67 for Edinburgh against Universal DVD Young Warriors in his team’s total of 187, but it was former Guyana one-day batsman Richard Ramdeen’s 63 (9×4) that put Warriors on track to win by 7 wickets.
Edinburgh’s second match of the weekend against Port Mourant was washed out after early morning rain on Sunday saturated the pitch and the outfield.

At Albion, Skeldon Community Centre beat Albion Community Centre by 4 wickets. Albion Community Centre batting first after winning the toss in the match which was reduced to 43 overs-a-side, made 190 for 9 in their 43 overs. David Latchaya 40 not out, Veerapen Permaul 30, Hemendra Ramdial 27, Narsingh Deonarine 23.

Bowling for Skeldon Community Centre, off-spinner Victor Pedro took 3 for 55 and left arm spinner Mark Lionel 2 for 25.  Skeldon Community Centre scored 191 for 6 in 42 overs, Anthony Bramble 95, Mark Lionel 58.  Bowling for Albion Community Centre, pacer Doodnauth Lallbeharry 2 for 26 and left-arm spinner Hemendra Ramdial 2 for 36 were the main wicket-takers.

At Edinburgh, Universal DVD Young Warriors beat Edinburgh by 3 wickets. In the match which was reduced to 45 overs-a-side because of rain, Edinburgh winning the toss and batting first made 187 all out in 43 overs with Shafiq Khan 67 and Robin Seebarran 33. Sharing the wickets for Universal DVD Young Warriors were off-spinner Richard Austin 3 for 9 from, left-arm spinner Anil Beharry 3 for 27 and off-spinner Balram Samaroo 2 for 23.

In reply Young Warriors hit 191 for 7 from 35.3 overs with Richard Ramdeen 63, Devendra Ramoutar 29 not out, Anil Beharry 25 the principal scorers. Edinburgh’s bowling saw pacers Denny David, Deonarine Seepersaud and left arm spinner Mark Sampson claiming two wickets a piece for 16.33 and 42 runs respectively.
