Cotton Tree’s Persaud and Gafoor in 184-run partnership

Cotton Tree Die Hard cricketers Jagdeo Persaud and Shazad Gafoor delivered outstanding performances when the 2011 New Building Society Second Division Cricket Competition continued over the weekend.
Eight matches were played over the weekend. They were organised by the Berbice Cricket Board.

Opening batsman Persaud slammed 94 (6×4, 5×6) and his teammate Gafoor, who batted at number three, hit a brilliant 90 (8×4, 7×6) to help their team to 237 for 7 in their allotted 30 overs against No. 7 Silver Park. Persaud and Gafoor put on 184 for the second wicket.

In reply, Silver Park’s opening batsman Seenauth Motielall scored 74 (6×4) to help his team reach 126 all-out in 20.3 overs. Other batsmen who scored half centuries are Tony Garnett of Kendall’s Union A, Parasram Tilkuram of Letter Kenny Young Star, Ravin Seecharran of Kendall’s Union B and Chandradat Roopnarine and Yuvendra Chinapen both of Fyrish. Seenauth Joseph of Tamarind Root and Jaipersaud Baijnauth of Letter Kenny Young Star scored five wickets each.

At Courtland, Gibraltar/Courtland beat Kendall’s Union A by 8 runs. Gibraltar/Courtland 147 in 27.1 overs with Stephen Ramlochan 2 for 20.  Kendall’s Union A 139 all out in 34.3 overs, with Tony Garnett 54. The main wicket-takers were Troy Mathieson 3 for 28, John Percival 2 for 15, Michael Cummings 2 for 17, Leyland Edwards 2 for 17.

At Hampshire; Tamarind Root beat Travellers of Albion Front by 42 runs. Tamarind Root 148 all-out in 28.3 overs with Alvin Ramdass 42, Ravi Ramdass 27 the top scores. Satesh Hiralall 3 for 28, Bhupendra Matadin 3 for 38, Prabhudyal Baldeo 2 for 18 was amongst the wickets.  Travellers 106 in 27.5 overs, Seenauth Joseph 5 for 28, Kevin Madramuthoo 2 for 16, Alvin Ramdass 2 for 20.

At Letter Kenny, Letter Kenny Young Star (LKYS) beat Johns by 38 runs. Letter Kenny Young Star 228 for 9 in 35 overs. Parasram Tilkuram 76, Makesh Persaud 47, while Ravin Seelall claimed 3 for 4.  In reply, Johns were dismissed for 190 in 30.3 overs with Vinode Samaroo 30 being the significant scorer.  Jaipersaud Baijnauth 5 for 25 was LKYS with the best figures.

Shazad Gafoor

At Fyrish, Fyrish beat Kendall’s Union B by 3 wickets.  Kendall’s Union B 205 in 29 overs with Ravin Seecharran 65, Anil Mahadeo 31. Aishnarine Shrikissoon 4 for 36, Munilall Shivdyal 3 for 20, Imran Ally 2 for 26.  Fyrish 208 for 7 in 30 overs Yuvendra Chinapen, 67, Chandradat Roopnarine 53, Imran Ally 48 not out, Munilall Shivdyal 36 not out, Devon Persaud 2 for 13, Anil Mahadeo 2 for 43.

At Rose Hall Town, Nigg Intruders beat Belvedere United by 5 wickets. Belvedere United 129 in 27 Overs with Shazam Khan 27, Ravindra Permaul 3 for 16, Harrinarine Chattergoon 2 for 13, Nigg Intruders 130 for 5 in 23 overs with Sudesh Veerapen 2 for 13, Nizamudin Kamallidin 2 for 35.

At Mibicuri in Black Bush Polder, Johanna Bush Rangers beat Mibicuri Strikers by 6 wickets. Mibicuri Strikers 121 for 4 in 20 overs with Reiaz Ali 3 for 20. Johanna Bush Rangers 124 for 4 in 18.4 overs with Satrohan Singh 48, Lookpaul Ramsundar 42.

At Scottsburg, the match between Unity and Springlands ended in a tie.  Unity scored  113 in 21 overs with Rakesh Ramdat 33, Kash Lutchman 4 for 29, Devin Persaud 2 for 21, Imran Mohamed 2 for 23.  Springlands 113 in 19 overs with Mitesh Ramnarine 35 not-out, Lakesh Ramnarine 3 for 17.
