$150,000 top prize at stake today in seven-a-side inter-block football

The Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground will come alive today when the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport hosts the final of their 2011 seven-a-side inter-block football tournament from 17:00hrs.

According to a press release,  keen and intense rivalry is set to unfold as the six zonal winners will clash in round-robin play-off matches to determine the two finalists.

The curtain raiser will kick off with the West Berbice Zone winners Hopetown taking on First Street Warriors of Campbellville. Game two will then feature Stewartville All-Stars of West Demerara clashing with Grove Back Street of East Bank Demerara at 17:25.

Game three scheduled for a start time of 17:50 will bring Hopetown and Company Road of Buxton together to do battle while Grove Back Street will face off against One Mile Wismar of Linden at 18:15hrs in game four.

Company Road will come up against First Street Warriors in game five slated to start at 18:40hrs while One Mile Wismar will meet Stewartville All-Stars in the final round robin match-up at 19:05hrs.

Meanwhile the finals will commence at 20:00 hrs with the two group winners battling for the top prize of $150,000 and a trophy while the runner–up will take home $75,000 and a trophy.

However, the presentation of prizes will take place at a venue and time to be announced shortly, the release noted.
