Pele hammer Timehri Panthers 10-nil

Pre-tournament favourites Pele Football Club got their campaign off the perfect start as they hammered tournament newcomers Timehri Panthers 10-0 in the second game of opening night action of the 22nd annual Kashif and Shanghai football tournament at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Bourda ground Saturday evening.

National player Devon Millington was the star of evening slotting home six goals (three in each half).

Millingon scored in the 26th, 28th, 37th, 76th, 87th and 88th minutes respectively. National striker Gregory “Jackie Chan” Richardson scored twice in the second and 67th minutes while Omallo Williams and Mervin Joseph scored a goal each in the 84th and 75th minutes.

Pele will play the winner of the Christmas Day clash in Blairmont between Mill Ballers and Rosignol United on December 28 at Bourda.

The Pele side which is coached by local football coach Gordon `Ultimate Warrior’ Braithwaite, played at such a high tempo that the inexperienced Panthers XI, failed to handle the quick passing game and the Millington/Richardson strike force.

It was the strike duo whose combination led to the first goal when a wonderful one-two pass between the pair, resulted in “Jackie Chan” scoring the opener.

From then on the game became the “Millington” show as he scored his third goal of the first half, to send his side into the break 4-0 ahead.

After a dull period for about 22 minutes when the Panthers managed to organize their defensive line better, Richardson broke that sequence scoring his second goal in the 67th minute before Millington completed his second half hat-trick to single handedly hit the Timehri Panthers for six.

The competition will continue on December 16 at the same venue with another double-header.

Grove Hi- Tec will take on Netrockers at 18:30hrs, while BK International Western Tigers will clash with Amelia’s Ward United at 20:30hrs.
