Pistons waive long-time guard Hamilton

(Reuters) – The Detroit Pistons parted ways with key scorer Richard Hamilton after reaching a buyout with the three-time All-Star guard, the National Basketball Association (NBA) team said  yesterday.

Hamilton is expected to sign a two-year, $10 million deal with the Chicago Bulls later this week, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Hamilton, 33, spent nine seasons with the Pistons, leading them in scoring eight times.

Detroit made it to the NBA Finals twice with Hamilton in the lineup, winning the title in 2004.

Hamilton played three seasons with Washington before joining the Pistons in 2002. An All-Star for the 2006-08 seasons, he has averaged 17.7 points per game, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 12 NBA seasons.
