Five more teams set to advance in Mackeson Smooth Moves tourney

Tonight’s third night of the Mackeson Smooth Moves basketball tournament will see action at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court and the Albouystown basketball court as the nation’s   premier players vie for a chance to cash in on the tournament’s $1M first prize.

The two venues will simultaneously host games, with 15 matches scheduled for Georgetown and 10 in Linden.

Three teams from Georgetown and two from Linden are set to advance to the next round after tonight’s matches.

So far, Victory Valley Royals and Ghetto are the two Linden teams making it to the next round, while Bounty Colts A, Slash and Knights are the three city teams advancing.

In the Linden Zone, ‘Jets’ seems like the team to beat, featuring Shane Webster – the powerful Centre who recently represented Guyana at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) championships in The Bahamas along with national point Guard Kevin ‘Two Feet’ Joseph, Lawrence De Costa and Laurell Caleb.

Former junior national player Javon Nelson will pilot another team from the Amelia’s Ward area,  Back Scheme Warriors and he will look to the sharp shooting Delbert Caesar, Oscar Adams and nifty point guard Ruel McKinnon for support.

Another stand out player in Orin Rose, a player known for his marksman-like aim from beyond the arc, will also be on show.

Rose, playing for team ‘Unknown’ is expected to be the centre of attention tonight in Linden.

Teams from Kwakwani and Ituni are also expected to make their way to MSC Hard Court in an attempt to stake their claim in the lucrative tournament.

The tournament will continue on Friday at the MSC Hard Court in Linden and in Georgetowwn, Berbice an Bartica on Sunday.
