Taylor snatches six-wicket haul in trials

NAIN, St Elizabeth,  CMC – West Indies pacer Jerome Taylor grabbed a six-wicket haul on Sunday as he continued his fine-turning for Jamaica’s opening game of the Regional First Class Championship against Guyana here later this week.

The 26-year-old right-armer, who last played international cricket in June last year, picked up six for 51 on the third day of a four-day trial match at Alpart Sports Club as Tamar Lambert’s XI were dismissed for 344 against David Bernard’s XI.

Taylor has struggled with injuries over the last 18 months and has not played a Test ever since limping out of the opening Test of the three-Test series Down Under in December, 2009.

He has been slowly working his way back into shape, however, and played five of Jamaica’s six matches during the recent Caribbean Twenty20 Championship in Antigua and Barbados.

Taylor was aided by off-spinner Bevon Brown who grabbed three for 78.

Lambert top scored with 82 off 110 balls, striking seven fours and two sixes while wicketkeeper batsman Chadwick Walton hit a solid 78. Bernard’s XI, who amassed 306 in their first innings, ended the day on 67 for two.
