Registrar to address “concerns” with GCB

After perusing the financial documents of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), officials from the Registrar of Friendly Societies (ROFS) will be meeting the board next week to address “concerns”, according to a source.
Accounting specialists of the ROFS during the past week have been scrutinising the annual returns and audit reports of the GCB and according to the source, some concerns were raised.

Further, the source, who stated that too many disclosures cannot be made at this time, said that the management letters that were presented to the ROFS made it necessary for officials to meet with the board.

The source said that the meeting with the executive will be a necessary requirement to outline how “things may or may not be done” at the board level. Management letters are documents that auditors submit when there are irregularities surrounding the accounts of an organisation.
Accounting firm Barcellos, Narine and Company, reviewed the GCB’s documents and these were passed to the ROFS, which is a requirement under the Friendly Societies Act, Chapter 36:04, under the Laws of Guyana.

The source reiterated yesterday that the ROFS was looking to ensure that every aspect of the GCB’s financial standing is in compliance with the Friendly Societies Act.

Our source also pointed out that the entire process may be completed in another two weeks but said that it can also take a bit longer.

The source had told this publication that the ROFS’s accounting specialists will be conducting a comprehensive audit.

The hawkeyed scrutiny is being conducted especially because of what “is being peddled” in the press.

This has resulted in the postponement of the GCB elections which were to be held on January 30.  When Stabroek Sport enquired about the life of the executive body, the source said that the current executive will continue running the affairs of the GCB.

The source indicated that the GCB was  registered as a specially authorised body and their constitution does not make provisions for a steering committee to take over.

Therefore, the current executive will be in charge until the review is completed and a date is set by the ROFS.

The source explained that the specially authorised society can perform whatever

function they choose and the GCB is charged with the development of cricket locally.
