Strive for higher heights

President of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Roger Harper has urged young cricketers to strive for higher heights.

Harper made the impassioned plea whilst addressing the gathering at the fourth annual Berbice Cricket Board awards ceremony held at State House, New Amsterdam.

Harper congratulated the BCB for all the successful tournaments they have held in Berbice and their contribution to the high level of cricketers on the national team that have represented Guyana.

“You [BCB] not only develop players capable of making the national team, but also players of standard,” he said.

Harper reiterated that the awardees should not be satisfied with their current level and should “strive for higher heights.”

He also made reference to the current rift in the DCB.

“There is a lot of talk on issues in Guyana’s cricket but change is not going to happen without action. It can’t continue like this, it has to change and we need to get the right people that have the game at heart,” was his take on the issue which has seen the Demerara Cricket Board split into two factions.
