Cyclists to be tested at re-laid circuit today

Cyclists will get a chance to put their racing skills to the test on the newly-resurfaced National Park Circuit today when the 18th Annual Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Limited Youth Programme pedals off from 9am.

National cycling coach Hassan Mohamed, who is the organizer of the race, is very eager for cyclists to regain their racing form after a holiday season break and  today will roll off the first race on his usually packed events calendar this year.

Cracks and drops in the surface at the National Park Circuit had long been of serious concern to the cyclists, but the recent resurfacing is expected to allow safer racing and faster times.

Mohamed’s inaugural race meet for 2011 was scheduled for January 29, but according to him he rescheduled the meet for today because he wanted to ensure the circuit was  completely dry before pedaling off the race season.
Today’s race programme will include  the 12 to 14 years Boys & Girls (3 Laps), BMX 6 to 9 years (2 Laps), BMX 9 to 12 years (3 Laps), BMX Boys 12 to 14 years (3 Laps), BMX Girls 6 to 12 years (1 Lap), BMX Boys Open (3 Laps), Juveniles (10 Laps) and Upright Cyclists (5 Laps).

The seasoned riders will also be participating in the  Veterans under-50 years (5 Laps) and Veterans over-50 years (5 Laps) categories, as well as the main feature, Schoolboys and Invitational, over 35 laps.
Representatives from Ricks and Sari will be on hand to present the prizes.
