Georgetown All Stars cop $200,000 first prize, MACORP trophy

The Madhia Goodwill Football tournament concluded with Georgetown All Stars copping the $200,000 first prize and MACORP trophy recently at the mining community’s playfield.

The Georgetown All Stars defeated Madhia All Stars in the final 3-1.
The Madhia All Stars pocketed $100,000, compliments of Roger Hinds’ Hotel and Mini Mall, while Mahdia/Campbelltown finished third in the competition.

Former national player Terrence ‘Ole Head’ Lewis of Georgetown was named the MVP of the four-game tournament while Sherwin Seaforth, also of Georgetown, scored three goals, the most by any player.

Vice-Captain of the Georgetown All Stars Troy Hermanstein, noted that the tournament was a good initiative to help with the integration of the community.

At the presentation ceremony representatives of MACORP company said that it was a good initiative and the company will be pledging its support to the event next year. The company also donated an additional $20,000 to repair the goals in collaboration with what the Region will be doing.

Officials who  went up to the mining community in Region 8 also got a chance to spot some talent and are in negotiations to have these players come to Georgetown. One of the standout players was Sherwin Clement, who was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

According to one of the officials he is a talented custodian but some technical work has to be done and he can become an even better goalie.
