GFA in bid to get voting rights restored before elections

The Georgetown Football Association continued its push to be regularized and duly constituted under its umbrella body, Guyana Football Federation, when they submitted the relevant documents yesterday to facilitate this process.

According to information coming out of the GFA, the executive submitted its constitution, audited financial report for 2010, list of executive members, list of registered players, bank statements, calendar of events for 2011 and the Minutes of their last Annual General Meeting to the executive committee of the GFF.

Stabroek Sport learnt that these documents were received by General Secretary of the GFF Noel Adonis.

Following scrutiny of the documents by the GFF Executive Committee, the GFA will be contacted, according to the source, and informed about the GFF’s decision on whether voting rights would be restored prior to the elections, which have been scheduled for tomorrow.

It is unclear at this time though whether the GFA will have an opportunity to exercise its franchise at the polls since nominations closed since March.

According to the GFA, 10 clubs have so far presented the requisite documentation to the GFA. These are Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United, Beacon, Charlestown Football Club, Fruta Conquerors, Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Police Force, Georgetown Football Club, Pele, Sunburst Camptown and Riddim Squad.

The decision requiring the GFA, along with Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA), the other association without voting rights, to submit these documents came after a meeting with representatives of those bodies last Saturday and president of the GFF Colin Klass.

Meanwhile,  the Guyana Referees Football Council (GRFC) has made a formal call for tomorrow’s elections and Congress to be postponed because of the breach by the GFF and the need for all affiliate members to be duly regularised and constituted.
