Weather takes a toll on AAG calendar

- IGG trials moved to March 4

As the rainy weather descends upon the plains it is doing it’s part to dampen plans of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) in keeping  its scheduled  2011 calendar of events.

Thus far, for the year, the Association has only been able to host two of its scheduled events, including only one of the developmental meets which was held February 13 at the Police Sports Club Ground.

And with only one of the four scheduled developmental meet having been held so far, president of the Association, Colin Boyce, said that all avenues are being looked at to get the meets executed.

According to the AAG’s calendar, the last of the developmental meets were expected to have concluded last week Sunday.

A developmental meet was scheduled for the Enmore Ground today, however Boyce stated that earlier last week he received a correspondence from organisers at ground indicating that the ground was currently water logged and was not expected to be of usable standard in time for a meet today.

Following this, he shared, the possibility of having the meet switched to Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground was being looked at, in an effort to move things forward, however that too was not possible.

However, Boyce said, it is hopeful that a developmental meet could possibly be held next weekend either at the GDF Ground or in Linden, weather and other factors permitting.

“This week is supposed to be at Enmore but the organisers there say that the ground is water logged, so we had to get this one postponed. No meet could be held this weekend. We’re hoping to run one next weekend either at GDF or at Linden,” Boyce said.  In the meantime, Boyce revealed that the Inter-Guiana Games trials which were originally scheduled for March 18 has been moved to March 4, according to the calendar the trials are set for the Enmore Ground.

Now burdened with the role over of the developmental meets, the Association also has the National Youth and Junior Championships scheduled for next month along with the Roxanna Rigby Memorial set for Blairmont on March 27.
