Roshini Boodhoo completes her life-changing 8-month journey

Roshini Kushi Boodhoo, who handed over her crown just weeks ago, said her 8-month reign as Miss India Guyana 2011 has definitely had an impact on her life.

Though brief (pageant holders usually maintain their titles for one year), she said it was a wonderful journey as she had the opportunity not just to represent Guyana, but to travel across the globe to Dubai; an experience that expanded her knowledge tremendously.

Roshini copped the Miss Congeniality Award at the Miss India Worldwide pageant after winning it at the local pageant. Roshini in the true spirit of congeniality said she kept thinking, “Oh my God! Guyana got the Miss Congeniality Award. It wasn’t just me, it was us. We won the Miss Congeniality Award. It was most appropriate, because this is who we are; friendly, social and good natured folks.”

She said she owes many new friendships and great bonds with beautiful and intelligent women right here in Guyana and on the international arena to her participation in the pageants.

Roshini has had a busy 8 months. While still the reigning Miss India Guyana Roshini went on to enter the Miss Guyana Universe pageant, which was held in July this year. She endured what must have been a gruelling schedule given the training on the one hand and her duties as Miss India Guyana title holder on the other and emerged as fourth runner-up.

The dancer and budding chef shows no sign of slowing down. Indian classical dancing has been one of her passions since childhood. She first learned the art when she joined the group at the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha about six years ago. Since then Roshini has studied several types of Indian classical dances.
She said too about the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha: “Being apart of the Dharmic Naujawan Youth groups has assisted in grooming my personality. It educated me on how to manage my time efficiently and how to share knowledge on my religion.”

Talking to The Scene previously about her cooking, she said: “Oh this is my greatest passion! I love cooking Italian and Indian dishes and perhaps one day I’ll look at opening a restaurant that will offer Guyanese real Italian and Indian foods.”

In the meantime, she shares her cooking creations via social networking with her Facebook recipes page.

Meantime, she took time out to thank all those who made her journey possible: Digicel, Guyana Fashion Weekend, Franchise Holder of the Miss India Guyana Pageant Chandini Rambalak Ramnarain, Gavin Ramnarain, Padmini and Lucria Rambalak, her parents Neil and Sookrane Boodhoo, her brothers Ravi and Shoghi and her biggest critic, her sister and first runner-up in the Miss India Guyana 2012 pageant, Tahirih Boodhoo. She also extended gratitude to her fans, supporters and well wishers who reminded her where she came from.

“You can’t imagine how much your kindness and compassion mean to me; from the youngest to the eldest–I value every word. We breathe the same air, we travel the same roads, we harvest from the same soil,” Roshini said. “Jo fark is duniya mein dehkna chhatein ho, waahe fark bano,” she added, explaining that it means “Become that change which you wish to see in the world”.
