Achievers take $80,000 and trophy in volleyball tournament

Goed Fortuin Young Achievers proved why they were the number one seed heading into the final of the GuyOil/ Tradewind Tankers ‘True Champions’ Volleyball Tournament by walking away with the top prize of $80,000 and a trophy for their winning exploits.

Young Achievers faced the number two seeded team, the GuySuCo Training School (GTS) and showed how dominant they can be by defeating them in all formats of the game.

Achievers controlled the six’s format easily by imposing their will on GTS, defeating them in straight sets at 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18.

In the four’s format GTS showed some grit as they were locked in a heated battle as both sides found themselves one all after two sets. However, in the deciding set Young Achievers prevailed in a hard-fought encounter which finished 15-13.

Returning for the two’s format, Achievers wrapped up the games to claim their prize in straight sets which finished 15-13 and 15-13.

Meanwhile, in the third place playoff Castrol Strikers won after enduring a tough contest with Port Mourant Jaguars.

Strikers went down early but rebounded well to come out on top in the six’s format which ended 20-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 29-27.

However, they lost in the four’s version going down to the Jaguars 12-15, 15-11 and 13-15.

While they did not have a two’s version for the third place playoff, Strikers captured the podium finish following the tabulation of points.

Randy Adams of the Young Achievers captured the Most Valuable Player award while Cleveland Peters received the Best Server and Spiker awards. The Best Setter award went to Khemraj Singh while the Best Blocker was Castrol’s Kerwyn Richards.
