Man charged with murdering guard at No.19

The police say that Seetal Samaroo age 38 years, of Lot 279 No.2 Village, East Canje, Berbice was today arraigned before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court for murder committed on Karamchand Pancho called ‘Guru’ age 71 years, of Nigg Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice on May 14, 2012.

Gov’t to appeal committees ruling

Government will this week appeal the ruling of Chief Justice Ian Chang in the action brought by the administration challenging the numerical make- up of the National Assembly’s Com-mittee of Selection, but the move is not likely to affect the work of the parliamentary committees.

SANT’ AGOSTINO, Italy, (Reuters) – A strong earthquake in northern Italy killed at least six people, injured dozens and damaged historic buildings including a famed mediaeval castle early yesterday, waking terrified citizens and sending thousands running into the streets.
