18-year-old charged with stealing $400,000 gold chain

Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton granted an 18-year-old man $125,000 bail when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with stealing a gold chain valued $400,000.

It is alleged that on January 28, at Georgetown, Kennell Frank, of 2418 East Ruimveldt, robbed Surendra Alladat of the item. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge of armed robbery.

In her bail application, his attorney, Omeyanna Hamilton told the court that police ranks arrested her client for a traffic violation. She said that the virtual complainant, who was at the station at the time, had alleged that a group of men on motorcycles had robbed him and her client has no knowledge of the allegation. She said too Frank has an unblemished character and he has no previous convictions.

No facts were presented to the court about what transpired on the day in question. However, the prosecutor told the court that the VC identified the accused as the perpetrator shortly after the incident occurred. He said that there is no statement in the prosecution’s file indicating that Frank had been charged with a traffic violation.

Frank was ordered to return to court on February 10.
