Feuding brothers-in-law in court

Two men yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges of felonious wounding and threatening language respectively.

The court heard that on January 27 at Curtis Street, Albouystown, Ronald Armstrong wounded John Williams with  intent to maim, disfigure or cause the man grievous bodily harm. The accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him.

On the other hand, Williams was charged with using threatening language to Armstrong whereby a breach of the peace may be occasioned. The accused pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him.

In presenting the police facts to the court, Prosecutor Jairam Luckhai told the court that Williams is the brother-in-law of Armstrong. On the day in question at about 13:30 hrs Williams and his mother had a conversation via telephone which was overheard by Armstrong.  Williams who was armed with an ice pick after making the phone call left for his mother’s residence when he was confronted by Armstrong who was armed with a cutlass. The court heard that Armstrong dealt Williams a chop to his neck and fled the scene. The injured Williams was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted a patient and was later discharged, the prosecutor concluded.

After listening to the prosecutor,  the magistrate informed Armstrong that he was being placed on $150,000 bail while the other accused was granted $10,000 bail.

The matter was transferred to Court One for report and fixture on February 10.
