Suspect in Mahdia murder charged after almost two years

The suspect in the June, 2010 murder of Vanburn Hanover was charged yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Shavon Evans was remanded to prison by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who transferred the matter to the Mahdia Court for April 18.

The court heard that on June 26, 2010, Evans murdered Hanover at Mahdia.
He was not required to plead to the capital charge.

No facts were presented to the court by the prosecution on what had transpired on the day Hanover was killed.

Hanover, 33, of Lot 50 Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, was discovered unconscious outside a disco in Mahdia around 11pm on June 26, police had said at the time. Reports are that a piece of wood, believed to be the murder weapon, was discovered next to Hanover. He died shortly after arriving at the Mahdia hospital.
