Students of the Kuru Kuru Training Centre (KKTC) on Wednesday received a vehicle and a number of computer systems from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and Food for the Poor Guyana.
Sixty per cent of the cost for the purchase of the vehicle was derived from the KKTC’s chicken project while the remainder was obtained through project designs, sales and other small projects done by students and teachers, a press release from the Government Information Agency said.
The vehicle, a wagon, will be stationed at the KKTC and will be used to host driving lessons. Previously, the centre had to employ vehicles from various ministries to host the full driving course. Minister Dr Frank Anthony said efforts were made to procure a vehicle as the KKTC planned that at the end of their stay, every student “would be able to write the test, do the practicals and be able to get a driver’s licence.”
KKTC Administrator Jagnarine Somwar said the chicken project started in 2009/2010, through funding from the charity and the centre built a 30 by 60 foot chicken coop with the necessary equipment.
Manager of the FFTP Leon Davis said the charity plans to work with the ministry to implement other programmes that benefit the nation’s youth.
