Women lawyers say Greene should no longer be police commissioner

The crux of the matter is the misuse of the Office of Police Commissioner for sexual favours, whether consensual or otherwise, the GAWL stated.

According to the GAWL in a media release, “The reported contents of a recent statutory declaration made by him clearly demonstrate that there was conduct in the Office of the Commissioner of Police which reflects an unacceptable approach by a professional police officer (no less of the highest authority) in the execution of his duties.”

The release said it is appropriate to point out that the moral authority of Police Commissioner Greene to lead the Guyana Police Force “has now become relevant for consideration,” in view of the allegation of rape that was made against him.

The GAWL, however, acknowledged that  it respects the right of Greene to pursue whatever legal recourse he or his attorneys see fit in relation to this allegation.

Meanwhile, the women lawyers’ body expressed hopes that notwithstanding all recent occurrences involving the allegations against Greene, police officers of all ranks would not be discouraged from operating to the highest standards of professionalism.

And the body indicated also that it is looking forward to a “timely resolution of this anomalous situation in order to restore the confidence that citizens ought to have in the Guyana Police Force and its work.”
