Man accused of raping girl, 14, placed on $200,000 bail

A 20-year-old man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl was yesterday placed on $200,000 bail after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The court heard that on October 13 and December 5, Rawle Devonish sexually penetrated the child.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him.

The matter was called in camera and the public had to leave the courtroom.

According to reports, the man invited the juvenile to his home, lured her into his bedroom and had sexual intercourse with her.

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry placed the man on $100,000 bail on each of the offences.

The matter was transferred to Court Two where it was adjourned until March 12 for report and fixture.
