Relief Council celebrating 18 years with exhibition

The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) is celebrating 18 years of serving the public with a photographic exhibition on the ground floor of the National Library.

In a press release, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said the exhibition which is held annually, is among several activities such as a church service, fundraising dinner that the GRC is hosting to mark the anniversary.

Head of the GRC, Yvonne Hinds who officially opened the exhibition said, “This activity is a chronicle of the 18 years of our service to the people of Guyana…so the doors are open for members of the public to come in and see the work we do at the GRC, and how they can contribute in making a difference in someone’s life.” She also said that the GRC will continue to support victims of natural and man-made disasters.

The GRC is a non-profit organisation that helps the victims of disasters such as fire, floods and storms. It also provides temporary shelter for victims who have been displaced from their homes due to disasters. The GRC’s work is funded by local and international supporters, a monthly subvention from government and fundraising activities.

“All of us are born with talents and the ability to give in various ways and means…while some give monetary donations others would volunteer their time and skills,” she said. The exhibition will be open daily from 10 am until February 18.
