Channa bomb lobbed at Sheriff St store

The owners of the $499 store located on Sheriff and Garnett streets were awakened yesterday morning to an explosion and upon further investigation they found that someone had thrown Molotov cocktails at their home.

According to Sharon Goberdhan, one of the incendiary devices was thrown on the roof of the house and two others to the windows on the corner of Sheriff and Garnett streets.

The building that was attacked

“This thing happen around 3 o’clock this morning when Francine close off the fish shop and the place get quiet,” the woman said from her home.

She explained that her roof was damaged as a result and there several broken glasses. A small fire was said to have started in the yard but was extinguished without causing much damage.

Goberdhan explained that the attack must be a case of mistaken identity since neither she nor her husband, Yoganand Goberdhan, has problems with anyone.

“We aint get problem with nobody but people owe we so we don’t know what going on or if someone got something against we and we don’t know. Everyone is alarmed over the situation because people know how we live. My husband is very quiet,” she noted.

According to a police press release, the building houses the $499 store along with the Timiely Store and Amavani Document Centre on the lower flat.

It was noted that pieces of broken glass and a quantity of channa were recovered at the scene.

There have been many incidents like this in recent years but the police have not been able to solve any of them.
