Kitty man charged with wounding peacemaker in family fracas

A man accused of wounding another man about his body during a family fracas was placed on $60,000 bail on Thursday by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that on February 12, at Shell Road, Kitty, Christopher Persaud unlawfully and maliciously wounded Pawn Kumar. Persaud was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him.

The prosecution’s case is that Kumar’s relatives were involved in a fight with Persaud’s family. As a result, Kumar, the prosecution stated, was trying to resolve the matter peacefully when he was attacked by the accused, who dealt him several cuffs and kicks about his body.

The injured Kumar reported the matter and the accused was detained and charged.

After the magistrate placed the accused on bail, he was informed that the matter will be called again on March 6 for report and fixture.
