Week of activities to mark Burnham’s 89th birth anniversary

The Burnham Foundation hosts a week of activities from today to mark the occasion of the 89th birth anniversary on February 20, of the founder of the PNC and first executive president of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, the late Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham.

The Burnham Foundation which was established to memorialize Burnham and to exploit his legacy sponsors its annual memorial cycle race from Carifesta Avenue to Belfield and back today as the first of the commemorative events.

The event which is expected to showcase the country’s top riders is being conducted by the Guyana Cycling Federation. This is the fifth successive year of this event which now features on the GCF’s calendar.

On Saturday the foundation will convene its annual conference at which an evaluation will be done of last year’s programme.

The week of activities will culminate with two events on Sunday – in the morning of the 26th there will be a commemorative church service at the Kitty Methodist Church which Burnham attended in his boyhood days.

In the evening there will be a commemorative concert at the Theatre Guild, featuring a number of Guyana’s leading artistes. This concert will also mark the launching of the Circle of Love’s first CD and Stephanie Bowry’s first book of short stories, the release concluded.
