Miner’s body found in Mazaruni River

The body of Martin Thompson was yesterday morning found in the Mazaruni River some distance from where the boat he was in capsized on Tuesday.

Up to late yesterday afternoon the body was being transported to the city.
Thompson’s sister Michelle told this newspaper that a search team found his body floating in the water around 6 am. She said that she is unsure of the state of the remains but is thankful that his body has been found.

Thompson a 34-year-old dredge owner of 1856 Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt and two others were travelling to Apaikwa Landing where he had his operations when the mishap occurred.

They had apparently encountered rough waters in the vicinity of a waterfall near Isseneru Village, Region Seven.

He leaves to mourn five siblings, three children and his parents Gloria and Vincent Thompson.
