Two years in jail for fisherman found with gun, ammo

At the Springlands Court yesterday, Magistrate Krishndat Persaud sentenced a fisherman, Bowan ‘Rocky’ Lakeram, 35, to four years imprisonment and fined him $100,000 on charges of possession of arms and ammunition.
Reports are that around 11:15 pm on February 23, Lakeram of No 68 Village, Corentyne had in his possession a .38 revolver along with three live matching rounds.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years for each offence and also fined $50,000 for each charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
Before the sentence was passed, Lakeram begged the magistrate for leniency and also told him he was sorry. He said too that he had found the bag at the ball field and took it home.

Sergeant Michael Grant, prosecuting, told the court that the police, acting on information, conducted a search at Lakeram’s home and found a black plastic bag on the ledge containing the articles.
