Lara, Sobers for Sir Viv celebrations

(Trinidad Express) Former batting sensation Brian Lara is among several cricket legends expected here next week for Sir Vivian Richards’s 60th birthday celebrations.
The 42-year-old Lara, who holds the record for the highest scores in Test and first class cricket, will join Sir Ian Botham, Sir Richard Hadley, Sir Garfield Sobers and Sir Everton Weekes in the week long activities.
Sir Viv, one of the most successful West Indies captains and perhaps the most dominant batsman of his era, is Antigua and Barbuda’s only living national hero.
He never lost a Test series as Windies captain and finished his 121-match Test career with an average of 50.
Sir Ian, Sir Richard and Sir Garry will tee off in the golf tournament next Wednesday while Lara will deliver the feature address at the state banquet the following day.
