Teen fined over verbal abuse of mother

Eighteen-year-old Ryan Jordan was yesterday fined $25,000 after he pleaded guilty to using abusive language towards his mother, Michelle Clark, when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to a charge of threatening behaviour and was placed on $25,000 bail. His mother was also the complainant in the second charge.

The prosecution stated that son and mother reside at 15-15 Norton Street. On the day in question, Jordan became annoyed with Clark over a pair of long boots, which he had used earlier in the day. It is alleged that the defendant then walked up to his mother with a knife, threatened to kill her and verbally abused her. His mother became fearful for her life and made a report to the Alberttown Police Station, resulting in Jordan’s subsequent arrest, the court was told.
Both parents of the youngster were present in court and his father claimed that the teen has a different personality when he is with him and that he constantly asks the boy’s mother to send him to live with him but she would not.

Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry listened to the explanations and claims of the teen’s parents and after his guilty plea, she fined him for the use of abusive language. On the second charge, he was placed on bail and is to return for a hearing in Court Six on March 15.
