Four charged in $5.3M Blygezight break and enter

Four men were yesterday charged with break and enter, and larceny.

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded Patrick Smith, Renhart Khan, and Conrad Hope to prison, whiles Lurris Mussenden was placed on $100,000 bail after they were arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, February 22, at Blygezight Gardens, Georgetown, the defendants broke and enter the premises of Tie Sheng Ye and removed $3,700,000, US$7,000 (equivalent to $1,400,000), and a quantity of Chinese Yuan. The total currency stolen amounted to $5,300,000.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, at about 8am, Tie Sheng Ye, a businessman, secured his premises and left the currency there. At about 5pm, the same day, he received information that his house was broken into. The victim then immediately left for his house, which he found ransacked and the articles were missing. A report was then made to the police.

Acting upon information received, the police arrested Khan, who allegedly admitted to breaking and entering the house, along with Smith, who was later arrested. Hope was also later arrested and allegedly admitted to committing the offence, along with the two other accused. Mussenden, who was also subsequently arrested, denied the allegations.
