Two injured in Plaisance drive-by shooting

Two men are nursing serious injuries and receiving treatment at the Georgetown Hospital following a drive-by shooting at Market Road, Plaisance East Coast Demerara this afternoon.

Injured are Devon Agard called ‘Chucky’ and a man whose name was given only as ‘Joe-Joe’.

Stabroek News was told that just after 3 pm the two men were heading to a barber shop when gunshots were heard.

The gunmen were said to be travelling in a yellow taxi.

The two injured men were picked up and rushed to hospital.

Distraught relatives and friends, who flocked the hospital, said that as far as they know the young men had no enemies.

The police tonight said that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Giovani Leitch called “Joe Joe”, 21 years of Middle Street, Sparendaam, ECD, and Devon Agard called “Chucky”, 21 years of Goedverwagting, ECD, which occurred at about 1530h today at Northslip Street, Sparendaam.

Police say that investigations so far have revealed that the two victims were attacked by a man armed with a firearm who discharged a number of rounds at them and escaped.  Leitch was shot to his chest and abdomen and  Agard was shot to his chest, abdomen and lower back. They have been admitted to the GPHC.

A number of live rounds and spent shells have been recovered at the scene by the police.
