Three years for one gramme cocaine possession

A Lusignan, East Coast Demerara man, who was found with a gramme of cocaine during a search by city police, was yesterday sentenced to a three year jail term.

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Sadeeka Mohamed, 33, pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics and Magistrate Judy Latchman handed down the sentence and a $60,000 fine.

It was alleged that on March 24, 2011, between Charlotte and Regent streets, ranks from the city constabulary observed the accused acting in a suspicious manner.  They then conduct a search on him and discovered that he had four pieces of rock, which proved to be cocaine after it was tested.
