Man shoved to death from Strathavon pavilion

A father of four died on the spot yesterday after he was pushed off the Strathavon Pavilion, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara by another man and sustained what appeared to be a broken neck.

Dead is 33-year-old Ganesh ‘Jukka’ Rattan of #10 Mahaica Creek. Reports are that he was at the pavilion consuming alcohol with a group of men when at around 4:00 pm a fight ensued between him and another man which resulted in him being pushed off of a stand in the pavilion.

According to Rattan’s sister, Shanti Tulsi, she received the message about her brother’s death sometime around 5:00 pm from his best friend ‘Tatty’ (only name given) who was also bleeding. She added that she immediately summoned her other sister who brought along the police to the scene.

She said when the Police arrived at the scene the man was lying on the ground and was already dead. She added that she did not know what happened at the scene but is calling for a full investigation into the matter by the police to have the culprit brought to justice. The Police have since questioned ‘Tatty’ and it is also reported that they have a man in their custody who is accused of actually pushing the man off the stand.

When Stabroek News arrived at the scene around 7:45 pm yesterday the man’s body had just been removed from the ground by undertakers from Lykens Funeral Parlour. A post-mortem examination is to be done today.

The dead man’s relative said that he and his wife separated late last year and he had since then begun drinking heavily.
Rattan leaves to mourn his four children ages 9,7,5 and 4 and other relatives.
