North Ruimveldt man shot during robbery attempt

A 41-year-old man was injured to his left hand on Monday evening when he was confronted by two men in his Last Entrance, North Ruimveldt yard and one fired a bullet.

Gregory Beckles arrived at his home around 11:00pm and parked his vehicle on the bridge before entering his yard.

According to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, the man noticed that his gate had been left open and upon entering, he found two men in his yard. During the confrontation, the man questioned the perpetrators about their reason for trespassing and in response; one of the men discharged a single round.

The men then made their escape. Persaud further stated that it appears to have been a robbery attempt.

Beckles, according to a police press release, received treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital and was sent home.

When Stabroek News visited the man’s house it appeared as though no one was home and neighbours indicated that they have not seen him since the shooting.

Investigations are ongoing.
