Phone thief jailed for 18 months

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday imposed an 18-month sentence on Ramesh Ramnarine, who pleaded guilty to two counts of larceny.

Ramnarine admitted to charges of larceny from the person and petty larceny, when he appeared before the magistrate at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that on March 21, at Kitty Public Road, Ramnarine stole jewellery and a BlackBerry cell phone, which were the property of Althea Parks. The following day, the man stole another phone, which was the property of Tracy Wilson.

With his guilty pleas, Ramnarine received 18 months imprisonment on the larceny from the person charge and six months imprisonment on the petty larceny charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
