Seaman denies stealing iPad and cell phone

Orin Dubert, a seaman, was yesterday accused of stealing an iPad and a cell phone from Christian Sobers and he was refused bail by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that last Friday on the Kingston Seawall the accused stole one Apple iPad and one LG cell phone belonging to Sobers.

Dubert pleaded not guilty to the charge and was cautioned that it would be in his best interest to wait until his trial to address the court.

Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, did not object to bail but asked that it be imposed with the condition that the accused must report to the police weekly.

However, the magistrate refused Dubert his pre-trial liberty and he is to return to court tomorrow.
