Lancaster man accused of chopping off wife’s thumb

Police say that Maxwell Phillips of Lancaster Village, Corentyne, today appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Whim Magistrate’s Court charged with felonious wounding.  He was remanded to prison.

The charge, police said, resulted from investigations into an incident on March 09, 2012, where he is alleged to have chopped off the right thumb of his wife Alicia Edwards-Phillips, who is a Special Constable attached to the Guyana Police Force.
