Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali says four linesmen would be appointed to police the water distribution network in Mahdia as rogue miners continue to drill holes into pipelines; causing water shortages and creating a health hazard.
A Government Information Agency press release said Ali witnessed firsthand the damage the miners had done to the pipelines during a recent visit to the Region Eight community. He was concerned that the water network could become contaminated if miners continue to damage the pipelines. Ali said the lines would be repaired and the linesmen would be employed, as government steps up its efforts to deter them from destroying the infrastructure.
