US Army veteran denies assaulting peace officer, disorderly behaviour

A US Army veteran who is accused of assaulting a peace officer, disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest by a peace officer during an incident at the US Embassy was placed on $50,000 bail  by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Sharon Garnette Mason, 49, a US citizen, was very emotional as she pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

It is alleged that on Wednesday at Young Street, the woman went to the US Embassy to collect her disability compensation but was disappointed at what the officials there told her.

She then allegedly began to behave disorderly and assaulted Carlton MacDonald, a peace officer, while he was executing his duty. The woman also resisted the peace officer when he tried to arrest her.

The accused is expected to return to court on April  16.
