Jamaica wanted man shot dead, cop hurt

(Jamaica Gleaner) The Police are reporting that Richard Hylton alias ‘Hunk-a-gold’ and ‘Ritchie’ was fatally shot about 5:45 yesterday afternoon during a shoot out with cops along Dumbarton Avenue in St. Andrew.

A policeman was also shot and injured in the incident as well as one of Hylton’s cronies.

The cop and the crony are currently in hospital receiving medical care.

The police say a third man who was part of Hylton’s gang ran away from the scene but was later captured by the police and is now in custody.

A Browning 9 mm pistol, a magazine and seven 9mm rounds were reportedly seized.

Last year ‘Hunk-a-gold’ was listed several times as a wanted man by investigators from the St Andrew Central Police Division.

The police say he was known as the leader of the Bottom Gully gang which operates from bases in the Grant’s Pen and the Ambrook Lane areas.

The police say the Bottom Gully Gang specializes in the stealing of motor vehicles and armed robbery of business establishments in the Corporate Area.

Hylton was also identified as one of the gunmen involved in the multi-million dollar heist that took place at Dunrobin Plaza in March of last year.

Hylton was wanted for a murder committed on June 24, 2011 and several shootings committed over the last five years.
