Cyclist killed by lorry

A pedal cyclist was struck down and killed by a motor lorry on the Triumph public road, East Coast Demerara on Friday and the driver is in police custody assisting with investigations.

Dead is Shahabudeen Deepan age 46 years of Martyrsville, Mon Repos, ECD.
Police said in a press release yesterday that investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred around 1300 hours at Triumph Access Road which resulted in the death of Deepan.

Initial investigations revealed that Deepan was cycling along the roadway when it is alleged that he attempted to cross the road and was struck down by a motor lorry, the release said, adding that later the man was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital.
