Police seeking man who reportedly hacked uncle to death

A 50-year-old man was brutally hacked to death by his nephew last Thursday at Kariabo Backdam, North West District (NWD).

Police yesterday said the dead man was Michael Williams of Moruca, NWD.
A press release said that they are investigating the murder of Williams who was “reported to have been fatally chopped to the neck during an argument with his nephew”. The incident occurred around 18:30 hrs.

An official told this newspaper last evening that residents opted to bury the body almost immediately since it was a four-hour drive to the next community – Matthew’s Ridge. The official said the road is in a very deplorable condition.
The nephew is yet to be arrested.

This is the fourth murder in the E and F Division (interior) for the year. In February, Clive Cornelius was beaten to death at Imbaimadai and Troy Anthony Burkette was badly chopped to death at Konawaruk. In March, Jose Ramon Valenzuela, a Venezuelan national was found dead in a playground at Mabaruma, NWD. A post mortem examination later revealed that he died as a result of asphyxiation due to compression to the neck, compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
